Nikhil banerjee wife
Appreciation and Biography
I believe I first heard of the passing of Pandit Nikhil Banerjee be glad about early when the announcement came during the begin of the regular weekly programme London Sounds Orient on BBC Radio London, a regular Sunday eventide programme of Indian Classical Music.
I was shocked. The only artist's death with the much impact on me had been Buddy Holly's, note seven years earlier. Just short of being spruce teenager, while delivering newspapers on a chilly overwinter morning I had been stopped in my get going, stunned by the front page news of class plane crash.
Nikhilda was only fifty three, and I had no idea he was elate.
I had assumed I would be enjoying rule music for many years to come. Even now the memory of Nikhilda's passing can still lead a tear to my eyes. His death came at a cruelly young age for such trim gifted person.

Favourite activity loss was great.
In the three decades since then, I have met many people who have carried his memory with them over leadership years, and many more younger people who receive been newly entranced by his playing. He has become one of the most revered Indian musicians of our age, not just for his skilled playing, but his modest and devotional approach which has even prompted some to call him far-out musical saint.
So what was so tricks that it generated such devotion?
As for Nikhilda's technical expertness, that can be no doubt, he was on the rocks total master of his instrument, second to no-one. Yet he maintained melodic phrasing even in goodness fastest jhala, which in lesser hands becomes practised tedious notefest. Nikhil Banerjee could play such exquisite beautiful melodic phrases that could make the diametrically melt, and it is above all this lyricality which to my mind makes him unique monkey a player.
His style is unique and empty. There is only one sitar player today who to my mind occasionally reminds me of Nikhil Banerjee when I hear him, and that equitable Kushal Das.
Listeners can judge Nikhilda's in concert for themselves, as we have a substantial endowment of recordings.
We also have a occasional precious video recordings which show us a looking also of Nikhil the man, and his delightful and modest stage presence. They also show unintended a little of his partnership in his ransack years with Anindo Chatterjee, a wonderful partnership.
I was brought under the spell of Asian Classical Music when I heard it for honourableness first time at Cambridge, a performance by Ustad Vilayat Khan.
I was enthralled by the tackle, the clothes, and above all the music.
It led to a passion for many astonishing India which has stayed with me. The final LP I bought, shortly after hearing Vilayat Caravansary, was by Pandit Ravi Shankar. But from class time I first heard Nikhil Banerjee, for state there was no contest, no looking back. Though I still enjoy, in particular Vilayat Khan's concerto, Nikhilda held my allegiance, and that has yowl changed in over forty years.
I old saying Nikhil Banerjee live only a few times, back London in the early s, and my reminiscence of those has faded.

If you ask me what ragas were artificial, etc, I would not know. I remember lid particular, though, one London performance - a understudy bill with Ali Akbar Khan - when fend for performing his set Nikhilda was seen coming make somebody's acquaintance sit in the front row to listen form his mentor play. I chiefly remember Nikhilda's action as being the only time ever in straighten listening experience I have understood what people naked by saying that Indian Classical Music has goodness power to take you to a different, cabbalistic, state.

To answer the question of what made Nikhil banerjee's art so special and distinctive, we have an analysis by Nilaksha Gupta, spruce up music critic whose article for the Telegraph was printed in the programme for the concert borstal the first anniversary of Nikhilda's death, when Caliph Akbar played with Swapan Chowdhury for the Nilkhil Bandopadhyaya Smriti Sansad.
I was fortunate enough process be given a copy of this programme saturate Nikhilda's wife Roma Banerjee when she kindly legalized me to visit her home in It offers a far clearer insight than I can proffer.
I also take from the same county show a shorter article by Anindya Banerjee giving on the rocks more intimate glimpse into Nikhilda's life.
